Diagnosis of allergies to dental materials and anesthetics
Dental Allergology assesses and manages hypersensitivity reactions to substances used in dentistry. Allergies should never be underestimated: manifestations may range from mild skin reactions to rare but serious systemic conditions. At Uzunov Dental we perform prick tests for allergies to dental anesthetics in patients with a history of predisposition to allergies. This method is more precise and less invasive than the older scratch test – it uses calibrated lancets and includes both positive and negative controls to minimize false results. In cases of suspected reactions to dental materials (polymers, metals, cements, etc.), we apply the epicutaneous (patch) test with standardized allergen panels. Testing prior to the fabrication of crowns, bridges, dentures, and other restorations prevents intolerance, avoids repeat procedures, and ensures comfort and safety.
Applying positive and negative controls reduces the likelihood of false results and minimizes risk.
